Area History

Any visitor to the Dutchman’s Hideout quickly learns about the long and colorful history of the area, as newspaper and magazine clippings adorn the walls and provide a historic glimpse into the legend and lore of this area. These articles include rare tellings of the stories of treasure hunters, spanish gold, murder, mystery and intrigue.

Many requests have been made over the years to make this treasure trove of information available to the public. We are beginning the process of adding many of these clippings on the wall to our online historic archive section of this web site. This will be long and tedious process to convert many of these old clippings in an electronic format. If you would like to be kept informed when this archive is updated, please send your request to dennis@dutchmanshideout.com.

We are long standing member of the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce, there you will be able to find lots of information on the Superstition Mountain area. Our neighbor to the north of us is the Lost Dutchman State Park. You will find both their links below.

Our History

The Dutchman’s Hideout opened its doors to the public in 2010. The restaurant is a Hidden Jewel hidden in the back of the Mining Camp Restaurant. Both restaurants are located at the base of the beautiful Superstition Mountains in Apache Junction, Arizona.

The Dutchman’s Hideout was opened to give diners a unique rustic fine dining experience. The restaurant’s unique exterior is made up of roughly sawn ponderosa pine hauled from Payson, Arizona. Today, the restaurant still follows the theme of the early mining camp cook shanty.
